Student-led Poetry Discussions

Role of the Discussion Leader
You will lead a discussion on the poem you have chosen. In preparation for the discussion, you should read the poem several times (certainly no fewer than ten times) and thoroughly annotate the poem. You’ll want to lead us to an understanding of the poem: what the poem is “about” and, more importantly, how it “works.” You are welcome to research scholarly criticism, but be sure to credit any sources you may have consulted.

Choose a poem!
Each student must choose one poem. Use the links in the spreadsheet to explore the various poems. When you have found one that you like, type your name in the cell next to your poem. Makes sure you choose the correct column. First come, first served! 


Role of the Discussion Participant
Your responsibility to your classmates is as follows:
    1) Read the poems several times before class.
    2)  Annotate the poems with comments and questions. Create a subfolder in your Google Drive folder named "Poetry Unit." In this folder, you will upload your annotated poems (in pdf format). Your notes will be graded for thoroughness and thoughtfulness. 
    3)  Come to class prepared to participate in the discussions, whether through comments or questions. You will receive a participation grade.
            The order of poems
         The texts of the poems
